Paluu juurille / Back to square one

Vaikka mulla on hieno leikkuri ja kaikenlaisia hienoja askarteluvälineitä, on yhdet ylitse muiden. Tutut ja turvalliset leimat. Niistä mun korttiaskarteluinnostus todella alkoi. Kaverini luona ihastelin ja harjoittelin, kunnes viimein uskaltauduin ostamaan ensimmäiset omat leimat ja musteet. Eikä takaisin ole paluuta, vaikka ne ensimmäiset leimasetit juuri myinkin kirpputorilla :)

Even if I have an amazing cutting machine and all sorts of fancy craft tools, there is always one above others. The familiar and safe choice of stamping. With stamps I got a proper start to my card making. First I admired a friend's stash and practiced with them until I decided to buy my very first stamp sets and inks. And there's no turning back, even though I just sold those very first stamp sets of mine :)

Leimojeni aatelia on ehdottomasti Papertrey Inkin leimat. Ne on vaan niiiiiin ihania, ennenkaikkea tämä doily-setti.

The royalty of my stamps are by far all my stamp sets by Papertrey Ink. I love them sooooo much, especially this doily one.

Pienelle ihmiselle / To a little one

Serkkuni vaimoineen sai jonkin aikaa sitten kahden pojan jälkeen pienen tytön tyllerön perheen jatkoksi.
Tätä ihanaa vaaleanpunaista uutista juhlistettiin tutulla kaavalla, kortilla ja lintuhelistimellä.
Ihan täysin vaaleanpunaista överiä en halunnut tehdä ja tästä kraft+pinkki -yhdistelmästä tuli kyllä aika kiva. Eikä ole pienen bambin voittanutta, varsinkin nyt kun voin leikata niitä kaikissa kuoseissa ja eri kokoisina, kiitos Silhoueten.

My cousin, his wife and their two older boys welcomed a little baby girl into their family. This lovely, cute and pink event was celebrated with a traditional set of card and a bird rattle.
I didn't want to co over the top with all thinks baby pink, so I went with the combination of kraft and pink which I am so loving. And there is no better thing than a little deer, especially now that I can make them in different colors and sizes, thanks to Silhouette.

Korttiaskartelun taustamusiikkina toimi tuolloin Johanna Kurkelan "Ainutlaatuinen", josta myös kertosäe päätyi kortin tekstiksi.

As I was crafting the card I listened to a Finnish song by Johanna Kurkela, titled "Unique". I wrote part of it inside the card too, freely translated something along these lines: "Beautiful little human being, you are unique. No matter what comes ahead, there will never be one like you."

Vien nykyään kortteja töihin myyntiin, siellä kun on liki 60 potentiaalista asiakasta. Juhlan ja kortin aihetta siis piisaa, niin yksityiselämässä kuin työporukallakin.

I have started to sell my cards at work, I have almost 60 likely customers there. So there is a lot of reason to celebrate and give cards there, both in everyones private life and within the working community.

Nämä kortit tein erityisesti muutama raskaana oleva kollega mielessäni, jos vaikka sattuisivat poikia saamaan. Ja niinhän siinä kävi, ei mennyt kauaakaan kun yksi poika näki päivänvalon ja taisivat molemmat kortit mennä sinne.

I made these cards especially with a couple of my pregnant colleagues in mind, if they should happen to have boys. And so it happened, it didn't take long after I took these to work that one of my colleagues had a boy and I think both of these went to them.

I have tons of old cards to display but they can wait 'cause I have something amazing I really want to show you. Something really lovely I've been waiting for a long time.

Pitkään olen siitä haaveillut ja kuin pikkutyttö kerännyt rahaa sitä varten (iso kiitos kaikille korttejani ja virkkauksiani ostaneille, niillä rahoilla tämän hankin!).

I have a new crafting companion, a Silhouette Cameo cutting machine!
For a long time I've been drooling over this and like a little girl I've been collecting money for it (a huge thanks is in order for those who bought my cards and crochet works, with that money I got my Cameo!).

I've already made a few cards for different occasions; my mum's birthday, for sale, made-to-order birthday card and for my cousin's new baby.

Yksinkertainen onni / A simple congrats

Mää alan olla ihan kuin rikkinäinen levy, kun toistan aina uudestaan ja uudestaan sitä, miten paljon tykkään yksinkertaisuudesta korteissa.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record with this constant repetition of how much I like the simple cards.

Ja tämä jos mikä kortti on erinomainen esimerkki tästä. Ihan hymyilyttää tämä ihanuus. Musta+valkoinen+pienet väriläikät on parhautta.

And this card, more than any other perhaps, is a great example of this passion. This brings a huge smile to my face, I love it! Black + white + a little splashes of color are the best.

Vajaa kaksi viikkoa sitten kultaisin pieni ihminen, meidän Pihla, täytti 2 vuotta.
Juhlatkin oli ja teemaksi valikoitui "söpö kuin nappi". Koska sitähän tuo lapsi on.

Almost two weeks ago the most wonderful darling little person, our Pihla, turned 2.
Of course we had a party and the theme we selected was " cute as button". Because that's what she sure is.

Kutsut lähetettiin vieraille perinteisellä postilla ja tein ne digiskräppäyshenkeen, ihan kuten viime vuonnakin. Helppoa ja yksinkertaista, mutta niin tyylikästä!

An invitation was sent to guests by traditional mail, they were made in the spirit of digital scrapbooking.

As a friend of a handcrafts enthusiast people, old and young, are subjected to handmade gifts. I love making them and I certainly hope that those who receive them are happy when they get a unique present.

Jälleen yksi ystävän poika täytti 1 vuotta, jee! Aikaisempien 1-vuotislahjojen, sorminukkejen, sijaan keksin jotain uutta: keilasetti.

Again a friend's son turned 1, yippee! And instead of the fingerpuppets I've given to previous 1-year-olds I came up with something new: a bowling set.

To be able to knock the pins over I hade to make the ball as

heavy as possible. So I covered a little ball. And it turned out nice!

Tervetuloa vauva / Welcome baby

Suloinen pieni tyttö saapui tammikuussa maailmaan. Sain kunnian olla paikalla h-hetkellä, mutta myöhemmin oli lahjojen aika.

A cute little girl made her debut in January. I was honored to be able to be present at the very moment of her birth, but later it was time for presents.

Edelleenkään ei ole lintuhelistimen voittanutta.

I still haven't found something that would be better than the birdie rattle.

Onneksi kortti sentään on ihan originelli.

So for Christmas my brother and brother-in-law got some mustache made of porcelain.

Herkkyyttä rautarouvalle / Tenderness for a tough lady

Rakas mummoni täytti viime vuoden lopulla 88 vuotta. Siinä on nainen, jonka elämää, elämäniloa ja lujuutta ei voi muuta kuin ihailla. Varsinainen rautarouva, jonka syntymäpäiviä tullaan toivottavasti juhlimaan vielä vuosia tai jopa vuosikymmeniä.

My dear granny turned 88 in the end of last year. She is one lady whose life, the joy of life and toughness I can't help admiring. She is a grand lady, whose birthdays will hopefully be celebrated many years, perhaps even decades, to come.

Läpimurto / A breakthrough

Niin kauan kun olen korttiaskartelua harrastanut on mulla ollut yksi vaikeus: minkälainen kortti sopii miehelle? Yrityksiä on ollut monia, mutta yksikään ei ole ollut täysin mieleinen.

For as long as I've been making cards I've had the same problem: what kind of a card is suitable for a man? I've tried several styles but none of them have completely satisfied me.

Mutta nyt siihen on muutos, sillä tein läpimurron tässä ongelmassa. Ja olen niin ihastunut tähän malliin.
Nyt kysymys vaan kuuluu kuinka kauan kehtaan jakaa tällaisia kortteja kaikille miehille? :)

But now things are about to change for I have had a breakthrough. And I am so loving this card design.
The only problem now is how long I can use this same card style for men? :)

Ihka ensimmäisen viiksikortin sai kunnian vastaanottaa oma mieheni syntymäpäivänään. Ja pitihän sitä heti päästä lisää tekemään, kakkosen halusi veljeni, ihan vaan huvin vuoksi :)

My husband was the lucky receiver of the first ever mustache card, for his birthday. And right away I had to make another one, which my brother wanted, just for fun :)

Spessutilaus / A special order

Sain jokin aika sitten mielenkiintoisen ja hauskan tilaustyön. Tarvetta oli onnittelukortille naisparille, jotka rekisteröivät parisuhteensa. Se mikä siitä teki hauskan, oli toiveet korttia varten: onnittelujen sijaan "hurraa"-teksti ja kaksi lepakkoa :) Mainiot ideat, pilke silmäkulmassa on aina paljon hauskempi tehdä kortteja. Ja tämä hurraa täytyy kyllä varastaa...

A while back I got an interesting and fun order for a card. The order was for an congratulations card for two women getting married and what made so fun of it were the wished details on the card: instead of traditional "congrats" there should be "hurray" and somewhere in the card there should be two bats (in finnish language one of the "nicknames" for lesbians is bat. Don't ask me why :) ). I loved these ideas, it's always fun to make cards with a little bit of humor and fun. And this hurray idea is so worth stealing.

Uuden vuoden myötä mai makingsissa puhalsi muutoksen tuulet ja tässä se on, uusi uljas logo ja ulkoasu.

With the new year came a big wind of change and here it is, my new logo and blog design.

Myös vesileima tulee muuttumaan, itse tuherrettu mehiläinen vaihtuu hieman hienostuneempaan versioon.

The watermark will be changing also, the bee that I had scribbled myself will be replaced with a more sophisticated version.

Taaperopojalle / For a toddler boy

Jo tovi sitten ystäväni poika teki siirtymän vauva-ajasta taaperouteen täyttäessään 1 vuotta.

Olimme juhlistamassa tätä juhlaa lahjoin ja kortein! 

A while back my friend's son made the all important transition for baby to a toddler as he had his 1st birthday. We were there to celebrate the occasion with gifts and cards!

Lahjan kanssa lähdin tylsästi samalle linjalle kuin jo aiemmin viime vuonna.

Mutta kun nämä kerran silloin havattiin toimivaksi ideaksi, niin miksipä sitä muutamaan?

Kuten aiemminkin, ideat ja mallit tuli omasta päästä, langat erinäisiä puuvillalankoja.

With the present I was a little boring and went with an idea I already had used once.

But they turned out to be great the first time, so why change anything?

As before, the ideas and the structure were my own, the yarns are various cotton yarns.

Kortissa mentiin hillitymmillä väreillä ja ensikertalainen kirahvi pääsi matkaan. Samainen kirahvi päätyi myös lahjapussin kylkeen.

With the card I took a little more subtle approach and a giraffe was a first timer for me. The same giraffe was also on the side of the gift bag.
